Anxiety

On-going anxiety is a more or less constant state of being nervous, jumpy and uneasy.

This can leave you emotionally drained, physically exhausted and feeling 'off colour'. The result is that you feel even more anxious and so, if you fail to take appropriate action, you become caught in a downward spiral.


Panic Attack

A panic attack is a sudden and extreme reaction to feelings of fear or anxiety. It is usually specific to a particular object, place or situation and is much more intense but less long-lasting than general anxiety. The worst of the attack is usually over within ten minutes or so, although some of the physical symptoms may last longer.


The signs of a panic attack can include palpitations, throat constriction, thumping in the throat, gasping for breath, a dry mouth, pain in gums, tingling feeling in the hands or limbs, an upset tummy, feeling extremely hot or cold, struck dumb, rooted to the spot, deep fear, fainting or a feeling of unconsciousness. You may experience all of these symptoms or only a few.

Rightly or wrongly, states of anxiety and panic seem to be becoming part and parcel of everyday modern life. Just because everyone around you is persistently tense and edgy doesn't mean that you have to follow their example.
