Hypnotherapy to help you with.......panic attacks

Hypnotherapy to treat panic attacks

Hypnotherapy is a relatively rapid treatment that's been proven time and time again to be a very successful way of helping you overcome panic attacks. This is usually done on a one-to-one basis. A good hypnotherapist will devise a course of treatment specifically to suit you.

Hypnotherapy - unlike some medication - is a short term solution that offers lasting results.

There are a number of ways to treat a panic or anxiety attack. These include:

A course of treatment using hypnotherapy and other psychotherapy techniques often used by hypnotherapists and other complementary therapists

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Medication prescribed by your doctor

Analytical hypnotherapy, often called hypno-analysis, is an advanced type of hypnosis that discovers and deals with the underlying cause of your anxiety. Hypnotherapy puts you back in control of your life and reduces the risk of having panic attacks at some time in the future.

Panic attacks can be so upsetting and unpredictable that they interfere with your normal day to day activities. If you've ever experienced a panic attack, or suffer from anxiety, you might be inclined to think that you're the only one.

Sadly, states of anxiety and panic seem to be becoming part and parcel of everyday modern life. At least 10% of the population experience infrequent panic attacks with around a third of the population suffering a panic attack at some time in their life. Panic attacks and anxiety attacks are the most frequently experienced anxiety complaints. They can be experienced by anyone – even people who have had no previous history of stress or anxiety. If you have frequent, unexpected panic attacks, you may be diagnosed with an anxiety condition known as Panic Disorder. Many people who suffer from panic attacks also suffer from agoraphobia.

But it's not all gloom and doom. Even the most severe cases of panic can usually be dealt with in only a few sessions of hypnotherapy, sometimes combined with other relevant techniques. My therapy treatments for panic and anxiety attacks are designed individually for you. I don't believe in a 'one-suits-all' approach to therapy.

How your doctor might be able to help you deal with a panic attack

In addition to hypnotherapy and related techniques, there are several different ways of dealing with panic attacks.

Your doctor may put you on the waiting list to undergo a course of CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy). Unfortunately, waiting lists are often very long and the course itself can take several months to complete. A course of CBT is often carried out in group sessions. This is something that people who have anxiety or suffer panic attacks may find very uncomfortable. There are also some things that you can do yourself to decrease the intensity of an attack if one occurs.

Or you may be prescribed sedatives or anti-depressant medication to help you deal with the unpleasant symptoms of a panic attack. Anti-depressant medications are best used along with methods of relaxation training and therapies which can help you change your negative thought patterns that can often trigger a panic attack. Your doctor should ensure that you're fully aware of any negative side-effects of any medication. It may well be worth a quick internet search to discover what these might be.

Some things you can do yourself to help you deal with a panic attack / anxiety attack

How to deal with a panic attack

Learn some relaxation methods. A good hypnotherapist will teach you several different relaxation and confidence boosting  techniques when you attend for your hypnotherapy treatment. Using these methods will help you to remain calm and will reduce the effects and duration of a panic or anxiety attack.

Discover the cause of the panic. Hypnosis can help you uncover and deal with the root causes

How to deal with a panic attack

Learn some deep breathing techniques. The first thing you must remember if you have a panic attack is to breathe slowly and deeply. Sometimes it's a good idea to to breathe into a paper bag. When you have a panic attack your heart rate speeds up and you might start to hyperventilate. Breathing into a paper bag helps rebalance your oxygen levels and slow down your rate of breathing.

How to deal with a panic attack

Ask friends and family for support. Since a third of the population experience a panic attack at some time or another, you're bound to find someone who understands what you're going through and can tell you what worked /didn't work for them.

How to deal with a panic attack

Don’t avoid stressful situations where you worry that you might have a panic attack. If you use avoidance tactics you’re only creating an even bigger problem that you’ll have to deal with sometime in the future. Instead learn to gradually tackle these situations one small step at a time.

How to deal with a panic attack

Remember that a panic or anxiety attack is usually short-lived and doesn't cause any long-term damage to your health.
