Panic Attacks - What is a panic attack?

It's important to remember that it's often appropriate and reasonable to feel stress or anxiety when you find yourself in certain situations. It’s one thing to experience fear when you're in what's normally viewed as a dangerous situation, but quite another if you simply don’t know why you're so scared, or when the fear is going to go.

Thankfully, the worst of a panic attack is usually over within ten minutes or so, although if you suffer such an attack it may seem to go on for hours. Very occassionally the panic can come in short bursts for a spell of up to two hours.

A panic attack is a sudden and extreme reaction to feelings of worry or anxiety.

It's an exaggerated version of our normal reaction to fear.

A panic attack can be specific to a particular object, place or situation which we find stressful, but can also occur for no known reason.

It 's much more intense but less long-lasting than general anxiety.

A panic attack is an extreme version of the body’s normal response to fear and usually comes on without warning.

Some of the physical symptoms of a panic attack may remain for a short time after the worst of the attack is over.

If you suffer from panic attacks please ask for help. You might be surprised at how quickly you can begin to recover when you use hypnosis. Clinical hypnosis (which is just really a fancy name for hypnotherapy) can be used on its own or combined with other effective methods.
