There's rapid smoking, the painful and rather strange rubber band technique, hypnosis and various special foul-tasting mouthwashes:
Rapid Smoking
Rapid Smoking is a stop smoking technique in which you restrict smoking to special times in your day. This is normally carried out for the first three days after you decide to stop smoking. During these strictly scheduled times you smoke non stop (i.e. over-smoke), so that it both tastes and feels very unpleasant.
While you are smoking you repeat phrases that remind you how unpleasant the experience is. Examples of this could be: “Smoking irritates my throat.” or “The smell of tobacco makes me feel sick.” etc.
The Rapid Smoking method involves opening a new packet of cigarettes for each smoking session, smoking three in rapid succession and then tearing up and throwing away the rest. You keep the burnt-out cigarette ends in a jar of water. This novel (and disgusting!) technique is based on the book 'Stop Smoking in Five Days' by Judy Perlmutter. If you're pregnant or not fully fit it you should find another method. |
Rubber Band Technique
Rubber Band Technique is a method used in smoking cessation that involves wearing a rubber band around your wrist. Each time you feel the urge to smoke you are obliged to ‘ping’ the band so that it hurts. The urge to smoke will become associated with pain. Over time this will reduce your tobacco cravings.
