Around 4.4 percent of American adults aged 18 to 54, in a given year, are thought to have a specific phobia of one kind or another. This accounts for 6.3 million people.
For some reason, women are more likely than men to suffer this type of phobia.

How many people have a social phobia?
It’s estimated that around 3.7 percent of American adults aged 18 to 54, in a given year, suffer from social phobia. That's 5.3 million people. Of the total population of the USA (all age groups, not just 18-54) approx 1 in 51 or 1.95% have social phobia.
It's estimated that in the UK alone almost 1,174,400 people suffer from social phobia in a given year.

How many people have agoraphobia?
Current statistics suggest that, in a given year, approximately 2.2 percent of American adults aged 18 to 54 have agoraphobia. That's around 3.2 million people. The real figures may be much higher with estimates of approximately 5% of all adults in the U.K. developing agoraphobia.
Agoraphobia occurs about twice as commonly among women as it does in men. If someone's going to suffer from agoraphobia it usually develops when they're in their 20's.
