There are 3 main ways to get from the Black Isle and Kessock Bridge to Stroma. I've outlined them below.
Option 1
Via B8082 (Inverness distributor road) and B861 |
This is is the shortest and probably quickest option, but slightly more complicated than Option 2.
If you know where Matalan and Inverness Royal Academy are, it's easy!
Total distance is approx 9.8 miles. Your journey should take you just over 20 minutes by car. The last 4 miles of your journey is via a good, but busy, single track road.
Below is a link to a map and directions. When you reach the location marked by the "B" on the map you should see a non-tarred road to the right (There's a wooden sign saying “Grianach”). Stroma is the second, and last, house up this road.
If you go too far you’ll reach cross-roads. Turn there and travel 0.3 miles to see our road which will now be on your left.

Option 2
Via A9 southbound, turning off at Fort Augustus junction (B852) |
This is a slightly longer route than Option1, but maybe simpler if you're not familiar with Inverness.
Total distance 11.5 miles. I would allow at least 20 minutes by car for this route, although most online maps suggest a much quicker journey. I don't think they take into account that once you leave the A9, the remainder of the journey is on single track roads.

If you miss our road and continue too far along the B861 you’ll come to a corner with a very small stone cottage sitting just above the road on the left hand side. You should also see a white cottage on the same side of the road. This means that you’ve gone approx 0.1 miles too far.

Option 3
Via the A9 southbound and the Daviot – Balnafoich road (very narrow single track road) |
This is the scenic route. The views over to the hills are great, but don't come this way unless you love driving on very narrow single track roads with few passing places!
Total distance approx 10.8 miles. This route should take you over 20 minutes by car although most online maps suggest a much quicker journey.
