Hypnotherapy & hypnosis - Self-hypnosis explained

What is self-hypnosis?

You’ve probably heard of self hypnosis, and the amazing results many people are having with it. But have you ever thought of self hypnosis as a way of improving your life?

Self-hypnosis - or auto suggestion - is a valuable tool which you can use to train yourself to change those aspects of yourself you would most like to change.

It's a naturally occurring state of mind that we all experience on a regular basis. We all daydream. When we daydream we've entered a relaxed state that's actually self-hypnosis. However, we most often think of self-hypnosis as being a state of mind we deliberately induce in ourselves to allow us to reach a specific goal.

It’s really just a hypnotic state that you can bring about all by yourself without even having to visit a hypnotist or hypnotherapist!

Self-hypnosis is a type of hypnosis that you can do yourself in the privacy of your own home......or anywhere you wish. You can do this simply by relaxing and making the relevant positive suggestions to yourself. Or, of course, you can use a self-hypnosis or relaxation CD which has been recorded by a hypnotherapist. You might even prefer a personalised CD which you've recorded yourself.

Listening to a CD provided by a hypnotherapist can still be classed as self-hypnosis, the self’ in this case being ‘you’ the person listening to the recording.

According to the wikihow website: “Self hypnosis is a naturally occurring state of mind which can be defined as a heightened state of focused concentration, (trance), with the willingness to follow instructions (suggestibility).”

So self hypnosis is a way of re-educating yourself at the subconscious level. It’s the ability to give yourself suggestions in such a way that your subconscious mind accepts them. This is usually done by allowing your everyday conscious mind to relax. You can use this relaxed state of self-hypnosis to change those things that would be too difficult to alter if you were to use only your ordinary logical thought process.

How long before I get results using self-hypnosis?

Asking how long it takes for self-hypnosis to work is a bit like asking “How long is a piece of string?” The best response is that most people can feel immediate benefits from self-hypnosis in that they experience feelings of increased relaxation and well-being. And the good news is that to become proficient at self-hypnosis, all it takes is a few minutes each day, and a strong desire to improve your life!

When you first start to practice self-hypnosis you might find that at times there will be an inner conflict which will attempt to prevent you from fully relaxing.  Just be aware of it and allow it to go.

Allow yourself to relax, rather than trying to relax or forcing yourself to relax……Follow this advice and relaxation is easy!

As with everything else in life, the more you practise the better you become and the more powerful the results. Practiced regularly, self-hypnosis allows lasting change, so that your success continues. It can be your key to achieving relaxation and becoming the person you want to be.

Self-hypnosis surely must be of the easiest, cheapest and most successful methods around in creating positive change. It’s a perfectly safe relaxation technique that, with a little practice, most of us can benefit from.

Self-hypnosis is easy.  It works.  So give it a try!
