How to reach your goals- The single most important thing you must do
If you want to achieve your goals there’s one single most important thing you must do.
Curious? Then read on to find out what it is.
Some scientists tell us that we only use 5-10% of our brains. In that case you must have an enormous amount of untapped potential. This could enable you to achieve so much more than you currently do. You could, of course, use the belief that you only use a tiny proportion of your brain as a feeble excuse for not reaching your goals or achieving what’s possible. But then you know that that would only be a pathetic excuse for taking the easy option.
When you think of the great successes that other people have accomplished, you know that you must be capable of achieving more that you do! Or are you? You might find yourself asking, “How could I possibly do this, that or the other?” The chances are that you’ll come up with a list of obstacles, barriers and excuses that prevent you from getting what you say you want.
So here's the secret
- The single most important question to ask yourself firstly is not how you can do it, but why. When you want something badly enough the details of how follow.
If you really do want to change something about your life you should firstly focus on some heartfelt reasons why you wish to do so. If you truly are serious about changing your life you must have some very convincing reasons! “It would be nice to….” simply isn’t good enough. Where’s the passion for change? The word ‘nice’ hardly conveys genuine motivation for change, does it? Your motivation to improve your life requires genuine passion. For hypnotherapy or any other method to work, you need to be motivated. Approaching change half-heartedly doesn't work!
Ask yourself what’s wrong with your life as it currently is.
Why do you wish to improve? How does this thing that you wish to alter adversely affect your life, your self-esteem, your health etc? Allow yourself to be pretty fed-up with your current situation. Use your frustration to urge yourself on. Notice how you are feeling when you think about your current problem. Allow yourself to be angry, disappointed etc. Write down exactly how you feel, and be determined to change the situation.
Prepare to take action and do something about your current state of affairs.
Tell yourself that you are sick and fed up of things as they are and decide right now that things must, can and will get better!
Now decide exactly how you will be, how you will look, and how you will feel when you have changed - when you have reached your objective. Visualise yourself clearly and use the power of your own mind, the power of your imagination, to imagine or pretend that you have succeeded in accomplishing your goal. Turn the anger, the disappointment and so on, to feelings of joy or pride.
Believe that it's possible for you.
Whether your goal is to lose weight, climb to the top of Mount Everest, brush up on your computer skills, or whatever, believe that you can achieve it. Remind yourself of other people who have done the same or similar things. Remind yourself of all the things you've accomplished throughout your life. Every day close your eyes and use your imagination to see and feel yourself as if you have already reached your goals.
Sitting back and doing nothing?
It doesn’t mean that you'll automatically reach your goals by doing this alone. If, for example, you're desperate to lose weight, then eating the same foods, and doing the same old things that you did in the past will result in the same old weight problems. But if you're willing to spend just a few minutes every day visualising yourself as if you've already achieved your ambitions, then almost anything is possible. The very process of imagining that you've reached your goal will help open your mind to what you must do to make your dream become reality. The how will become self-evident!
All you have to do now is pay attention and then take action. Clearly sitting back feeling very pleased with yourself, and not taking action simply won't do the trick!
What changes have you decided to begin to make today?
